John Fullbright – Songs

  • August 6, 2014

Following his Grammy Award nominated 2012 debut, From the Ground Up, John Fullbright is back with the stunning collection of folk on Songs. In the tradition of iconic Southern songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Fullbright keeps his narratives and melodies simple and compelling, letting the music speak for itself. In contrast to his first release, on Songs, even the backing instrumentation is spare, keeping his subtle vocals and guitar or piano as the centerpiece. Themes include love, loneliness, hard work, hard times, and the power of music to transform – which Fullbright deftly accomplishes himself on this release. Albums like this don’t come around very often – give it a listen. – Written by JFelton
