Kevin Morby – City Music

  • August 9, 2017

Los Angeles singer/songwriter Kevin Morby follows 2016’s excellent Singing Saw with this year’s equally great City Music. Where Singing Saw was inspired by Morby’s slow paced northeast LA neighborhood, City Music is more generally about his love affair with city life: the noise, the people, the pace, and all that goes along with living in an urban environment. Highlights include: the Ramones tribute “1234”; the gritty midtempo number “Aboard My Train”; the brooding ballad “Come to Me Now”; the soulful “Dry Your Eyes”; the spaced-out rocker “Pearly Gates”; and the shimmering jangle of the title track. City Music is an unassuming album that, like all in Morby’s discography, is superb and deserves an attentive listen. – Written by JFelton
