Kevin Morby – Harlem River

  • May 31, 2014

Kevin Morby (the Woods bassist and Babies singer/guitarist) released his solo debut – a collection of songs about New York City. A Kansas City native, Morby moved to New York in his teens and recently relocated to Los Angeles, and Harlem River is a fond farewell to the beloved city. Fittingly, Morby settles in a contemplative folk style that fits the reflective quality of the album, which in and of itself is an evolution from the sounds of his previous band incarnations. Highlights include: the rambling opener “Miles, Miles, Miles”; the Cate Le Bon duet “Slow Train”; the shuffling “If You Leave and If You Marry”; and the introspective title track, “Harlem River.” From beginning to end, Harlem River is a great album and it will likely be in my top albums for the year. – Written by JFelton
