Kevin Morby – Singing Saw

  • September 6, 2016

Singer-songwriter and former Woods member Kevin Morby decided to work with producer Sam Cohen (Yellowbirds) to expand his sound for his third solo album, Singing Saw. While staying true to his honest and acute song style, both Morby and Cohen added a rich mix of keyboards, electronic touches, mariachi horns, backing vocals and of course singing saws. Highlights include: the sullen opening track “Cut Me Down”; the Eric Garner (the African-American man choked to death by New York police) inspired track “I Have Been To The Mountain”; the fuzzy rocker “Dorothy”; the stormy ballad “Black Flowers”; and the dreamlike “Drunk And On A Star.” There is not a bad track on Singing Saw and the additional sounds and instrumentation deliver on all the promise of his earlier releases while establishing Morby as one of the best young singer/songwriters around – Written by JFelton
