King Tuff – Was Dead

  • April 22, 2013

King Tuff draws heavily on the ’70s glam rock scene but filtered through the ingenius mind of Kyle Thomas. The King is a persona of Thomas, who is also the lead vocalist of the J Mascis side project Witch, freak folkers Feathers, and the power-punk outfit Hunx and His Punx. After the success of the self-titled 2012 Sub Pop release, there was renewed interest in King Tuff’s extremely limited debut, 2008’s Was Dead. The 13 tracks on Was Dead take things in another direction and revel in glam and glitter, complete with incessant dance beats and centered around infectious grooves, all delivered with the attitude and bravado one would expect from a band named King Tuff. For a fun, verging on campy listen, check out Was Dead. – Written by JFelton
