The Lonesome Billies – It’s Good To Be Lonesome

  • November 17, 2015

Portland four-piece The Lonesome Billies play a spirited blend of classic country, honky tonk, and punk, calling to mind both legends like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings to modern heavyweights like Whitey Morgan, Sturgill Simpson and JP Harris and The Tough Choices. The band is comprised of childhood friends Clayton McCune (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeff Gaither (lead guitar, vocals), and brothers Mike (bass, vocals) and Glen Scheidt (drums). Their debut full-length It’s Good To Be Lonesome is a collection of twelve darkly tinged country songs produced by Brandon Eggleston (Modest Mouse, The Mountain Goats). Noteworthy tracks include: the roadhouse rambler “Oh My Friend”; the Johnny Cash-esque “The Day I Lost My Life”; the country weeper “Die Lonesome”; the whiskey soaked “God Damn It Bill”; and the gentle country lament “Better to Forget.” It’s Good To Be Lonesome is foot-stomping, hard driving roadhouse music – so crack a cold one, sit back and enjoy the ride! – Written by JFelton
