Lord Huron – Lonesome Dreams

  • December 4, 2012

Lonesome Dreams is the debut full length from Michigan native/Los Angeles-based musician Ben Schneider (a.k.a. Lord Huron) and comes on the heels of two quietly released yet buzzed about EP’s, 2010’s Mighty EP and Into the Sun EP. The music on Lonesome Dreams is an expansive collection of dreamy indie folk-pop filled with reverb, jangly electric guitars, strummed acoustics, bells, handclaps and occasional tropical percussion, sunny harmonies, and melodic hooks. The broad range can easily be heard on pieces like “Brother” and “Setting Sun” with their Indonesian and Asian-inspired sounds. Thematically Schneider’s songs are about landscapes, nature and love, as demonstrated by standout tracks like opener “Ends of the Earth”, “She Lit a Fire” and “In the Wind.” While some of the experimentations are more successful than others, Lonesome Dreams is a solid debut for a talented musician – I look forward to hearing more of his music as it matures. – Written by JFelton
