Luke Winslow-King – The Coming Tide

  • February 5, 2013

New Orleans based Luke Winslow-King is a talented singer-songwriter who is making a name for himself as a slide guitarist who draws upon a range of blues and jazz, from delta to folk, ragtime to rock. His diverse sound has been steadily gaining the attention of critics with original songs and traditionals on 2008’s self-titled album, 2009’s Old/New Baby, and his upcoming March release on Bloodshot Records, The Coming Tide. The Coming Tide is both rustic and elegant and also features King’s partner/vocalist Esther Rose. All the tracks are solid and unique in their own right but a few noteworthy tracks include the toe-tapping traditional folk tune “The Coming Tide”; the boozy trombone prominent “Moving On”; the New Orleans flavored “Let ‘Em Talk”; the gospel tinged “Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning”; and the twinkling piano ditty “I’ve Got the Blues for Rampart Street.” The Coming Tide is easily my favorite album that will be released in the first quarter of 2013; be sure to give this one a listen! – Written by JFelton
