Boston painter turned singer/songwriter Marissa Nadler follows-up her self-titled album of psych/neo folk songs with her sixth release, The Sister. Nadler continues to garner critical acclaim as she steps further away from her freak-folk beginnings, letting her unique voice explore the nooks and crannies of dream-folk, another facet of the genre. The eight tracks are confessional in nature, influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Elliott Smith, and touch on themes close to Nadler’s present: family, childhood, betrayal, friendships, new love, nature, and hope.
