Mike Cooley – The Fool On Every Corner

  • March 15, 2013

Mike Cooley is one half of the powerhouse songwriting team for the alt-country band Drive-By Truckers and he is out with his long-awaited solo debut, The Fool on Every Corner. Recorded live during three shows last spring, the album features Cooley’s greatest DBT hits as well as a new original “Drinking Coke and Eating Ice” and a cover of Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors.” Cooley is in fine form with his talented fingerpicking, incisive lyrics, southern-inflected baritone and creative new takes on DBT classics. The Fool on Every Corner is a must-have primer for the uninitiated, and a teaser for those hoping for new Cooley solo material. Standouts on this excellent album include “Carl Perkins Cadillac”, “Where The Devil Don’t Stay”, the previously mentioned cover, and “Marry Me.” – Written by SMarx
