Morriconez – Cloud of Dust, Cry of Death

  • October 2, 2012

Morriconez (formerly Jjango Cleefworth Morriconez) is the latest incarnation of singer/songwriter Jeffery Wentworth Stevens (George & Caplin, Wentworth Kersey), and his recent release Cloud of Dust, Cry of Death is an appealing yet loose tribute to spaghetti westerns. The thirteen tracks are largely instrumental and highly ambient, incorporating synths, drums, guitar, trumpet, loops and occasional vocals. This riff on Sergio Leone’s go-to composer Ennio Morricone (A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) captures the wide expanse and desolation of the South with warm tones, melodic swaths, and psychedelic and otherworldly soundscapes. Standout tracks include “Tierra De Nadie”, “Requiescant”, and “Desert Ship.” – Written by SMarx
