Mount Moriah – Miracle Temple

  • March 11, 2013

Mount Moriah’s sophomore release and debut on Merge Records, Miracle Temple, expands their sonic palette with expansive arrangements and more prominent guitars, bolder vocals and soulful rhythms than on their acclaimed self-titled debut. The North Carolina based band redefines the south – their home – as a place filled with new customs and ideas, not simply a place or culture tied to tradition. A few standouts include “Connecticut to Carolina” – an electric country waltz with lovely pedal steel; “I Built a Town” with haunting organ and violins; the gospel tinged “Telling the Hour” with soulful blues complete with eerie piano, swirling violins, and sparse guitar; and the harmony-rich country swing single “Bright Light.” Miracle Temple is another set of gorgeous songs that are sure to please fans of their first album, leaving listeners greatly anticipating their next one. – Written by JFelton
