Oaken Lee – The Man I’ll Be

  • August 29, 2011

The new British duo Oaken Lee has self-released their debut EP of indie folk, The Man I’ll Be. Comprised of multi-instrumentalist Jake Flowers and Will Gauden (bass, backing vocals), Oaken Lee spent a couple weeks earlier this year recording in a 500 year old attic in the rural county of Shropshire. True to their DIY aesthetic, the two used simple instrumentation of acoustic guitar, bass, tambourine and a single drum, resulting in a stripped down set of five enjoyable alt-country/indie folk songs. Over the past years or so Flowers has gained exposure through radio, gigs with well known acts like Mumford and Sons and The Handsome Family, and a presence on the local music festival circuit including Green Man (Wales), T in the Park, and the internationally acclaimed Glastonbury festival. Flowers’ tenor grounds the tracks, but it is the lovely harmonies of the choruses that really shine. Standouts include middle track “One Summer Gone” and closer “With You Now.” – Written by JFelton
