The Phoenix Foundation – Fandango

  • April 13, 2013

New Zealand’s The Phoenix Foundation follow-up 2011’s record of charming island pop, Buffalo, with the double album, Fandango. This is the fifth release for the six-piece, which is comprised of Samuel Flynn Scott (co-lead vocals, guitar) and Luke Buda (co-lead vocals, guitar), Conrad Wedde (guitars, keys), Tom Callwood (bass guitar, vocals), Chris O’Connor (drums) and Will Ricketts (percussion, keyboards), and it is filled with 80 minutes of self described tripped out pop oddities crafted with close attention to detail. From sunny synths to 60’s psych pop to strains of krautrock, standouts include “The Captain,” and “Evolution Did.” – Written by SMarx
