PUNCH BROTHERS | WHO’S FEELING YOUNG NOW?

NONESUCH

New York’s Punch Brothers are a virtuosic acoustic quintet comprised of Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Thile (mandolin, vocals), and Gabe Witcher (fiddle). Their third album Who’s Feeling Young Now? shows the ensemble’s songwriter Thile (formerly of Nickel Creek) developing a more refined sensibility that better suits his tenor as well as the myriad talents of the band. Specializing in experimental bluegrass/jazz fusion, Punch Brothers breeze through complex arrangements under the auspices of Grammy award winning producer Jacquire King (Buddy Guy, Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon). While the original songs are very strong, their instrumental covers of Radiohead’s “Kid A” and Swedish band Väsen’s “Flippen” are revelations. Check out Who’s Feeling Young Now? on Nonesuch, or catch their East Coast tour in April. – Written by JFelton
