Portland’s Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside are back with a new album, Untamed Beast – the follow-up to 2011’s Dirty Radio and another set music that hits the right note between contemporary and vintage sounds. Pushing the limits beyond their garage-soul debut, their second full-length takes large steps forward with a sound described as rockabilly meets post-punk. Recorded locally at Jackpot Studios, Ford is in top form, filled with sass and swagger and the chops to pull it off, notably on the rocker “They Told Me”, the lively and catchy promo single “Party Kids”, and the jazz-infused “Shivers.” Untamed Beast is a very satisfying album that steps up the rock aspect of Ford’s music while showcasing her vocal chops and spitfire personality even more. – Written by JFelton
