The Sheepdogs – The Sheepdogs

  • September 17, 2012

Since Record Dept. last reviewed Saskatchewan rockers The Sheepdogs – 2010’s Learn and Burn – the hard touring guys have literally made headlines in the music world. In August the four-piece won Rolling Stone Magazine’s best unsigned band contest, the first time a group not on a major label graced their cover. Produced by Patrick Carney (The Black Keys), this self-titled collection of rock ranges from boogie (think ZZ Top), retro jams (think Grateful Dead), pychedelia (think Led Zeppelin), to southern rock (think Allman Brothers). Together Ewan Currie (vocals, guitar), Leot Hanson (guitar), Ryan Gullen (bass) and Sam Corbett (drums) create enjoyable rock with classic harmonies, tight guitars, and laidback jams. Standouts include “Feeling Good”, “The Way It Is” and “Javelina!” – Written by SMarx
