Three-piece project Small Sur has released their second album, the simply titled Tones. While not new to the burgeoning Baltimore music scene, core members Bob Keal (vocals, guitar), Andy Abelow (alto sax, guitar), and Austin Stahl (drums) recorded the tracks over the past year, then collaborated with a host of musicians including members of Wye Oak and Lower Dens who added harmonies and organic flourishes of instrumentation. The fine care and attention to detail can be heard in the eleven songs, not as laborious structures or examinations but more like rich textures and lush, lovely passages on the nature of love and the world around us.
