Guitar virtuoso Steve Gunn has been quite prolific over the past decade, releasing one-off projects and collaborations as well as his acclaimed solo releases – 2013’s Time Off and 2014’s Way Out Weather. Gunn’s latest LP, Eyes on the Lines, expands on the sonic textures and atmospheric sound of Way Out Weather with a more of a free-flowing approach that includes circular guitar riffs, more polished melodies, hypnotic grooves and rich vocals, giving the album a meditative feel. Highlights include; the opener “Ancient Jules”; lead single “Conditions Wild”; the breezy “Nature Driver”; and “Night Wander.” This set of nine is more stripped down than Gunn’s previous efforts, allowing more room for the listener to reflect and get lost in the music. – Written by JFelton
