BROWN BIRD | SALT FOR SALT
Right on the heels of their EP The Sound of Ghosts, Providence, RI based indie folk band Brown Bird is set to release their 11 track full-length Salt for Salt on October 18th. The pairing of David Lamb (guitar, banjo, percussion) and Morganeve Swain (fiddle, upright bass, cello) finds an even more refined synthesis on this newest collection of dark folk music fused with rockabilly, Americana, blues, Eastern European gypsiana. Recorded live to tape to replicate the live show sound and energy, Salt for Salt is a winning addition to the Brown Bird discography. Standout tracks include “Chairkickers”, “Come My Way”, and “Nothing Left.” – Written by JFelton

BROWN BIRD | THE SOUNDS OF GHOSTS
Providence, RI based indie folk band Brown Bird self-released their EP The Sound of Ghosts. Despite changing line-ups over of the past few years, David Lamb (guitar, banjo, percussion) has found a great complement in bandmate Morganeve Swain (fiddle, upright bass, cello), together creating dark folk music with touches of rockabilly, Americana, blues, Eastern European flourishes, and haunting harmonies. Clearly their music is catching on: Brown Bird is slated to play at the Newport Folk Festival on July 31st, where Joan Baez and Bob Dylan launched their careers. – Written by JFelton

BROWN BIRD | THE DEVIL DANCING
Providence band Brown Bird’s second full-length album The Devil Dancing features a dark blend of Americana and indie folk that brings to mind the somber folk of J. Tillman but with a more spirited punk vibe. Frontman David Lamb’s deep vocals and percussion drive the hypnotic rhythms while bandmate Morganeve Swain’s (voice, violin, viola, cello, ukulele) voice perfectly compliments Lamb’s crooning. The arrangement and choice of instruments highlight Lamb’s lyrical storytelling, creating a cohesive flow and sound throughout the album. The Devil Dancing is filled with rich and arresting harmonies and swift changes in tempo that range from a full on romp to the sedate, keeping the listener engaged. Brown Bird is one of my favorite up-and-coming bands of the past year and definitely indie folk at its finest. – Written by JFelton
