DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE | CODES AND KEYS
Codes and Keys sees Death Cab for Cutie not settling, but inhabiting a more collaborative approach and mature thematic landscape. No longer are the songs of heartbreak and longing but of home and the means – the keys and codes – to getting there. Head vocalist Ben Gibbard (guitar) and guitarist Chris Walla take a step back to let Nick Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums) share the limelight, leading with keyboards, percussion, and electronics and ambient sounds. Death Cab for Cutie’s seventh studio album is a refreshingly welcome change of pace that will please fans and newcomers alike. – Written by JFelton

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE | THE OPEN DOOR EP
The Open Door EP is an extension of 2008’s Narrow Stairs, containing four abandoned tracks from those sessions and a ukulele demo version of “Talking Bird.” This album crackles with an energy all its own; expansive literary pop with quick tempos and bright melodies. This EP showcases Death Cab’s trademark anxiety, but driving beats dial-up the intensity from Narrow Stairs, distancing the band from the lo-fi influences of early years.
