FUTUREBIRDS | HAMPTON’S LULLABY
Back in April, I reviewed the Futurebirds’ self titled EP shortly after their amazing live SXSW performances. Now an official breakout band, the Athens, GA septet unleashes more of their hazy Southern rock on Hampton’s Lullaby which develops many of the psychedelic tinged southern country-rock ideas housed on their EP. Showcasing their innate talent with reverb laden guitars and slightly yet deliberately skewed harmonized vocals, Futurebirds shine on track like “Ski Chalet” and awesomely titled Point Break inspired first track “Johnny Utah”. The Futurebirds have a way of taking the ubiquitous indie folk sound and taking it up a notch. Catch a free download on their website http://futurebirdsmusic.com. – Written by JFelton

FUTUREBIRDS | FUTUREBIRDS EP
Futurebirds, hailing from Athens, GA, are a septet that has toured mostly on the eastern half of the U.S., and recently made a strong impression at SXSW. If their music could be illustrated in a Venn diagram, it would consist of the sweet middle overlap of southern rock, indie folk, and a lazy summer barbecuing on the porch with your friends. The songs have a loose, homemade sound, full of southern charm and slightly awkward harmonies that bring to mind bands like My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes. The Futurebirds EP is available as a free download on their website, so there’s really no excuse not to check these guys out. You won’t regret it. – Written by DBosket
