MIST AND MAST | ACTION AT A DISTANCE
OAKLAND PETTING ZOO
Action at a Distance – the second album by Bay Area’s Mist and Mast – builds upon the sound created by Jason Lakis on the stellar ‘07 self-titled debut with a full band providing a richer sound to their whip-smart, melodic indie rock. While the musical direction is still centered around Lakis’ understated vocals, winding melodies, unique guitar hooks and intelligent songwriting, on Action at a Distance Lakis collaborates with bandmates Craig Adams (guitar), Bill French (drums), and Alex Steinhart (bass) for a sound that is more akin to their live shows. Action at a Distance is another excellent indie rock album from one of my favorite Bay Area bands.

MIST AND MAST | MIST AND MAST
OAKLAND PETTING ZOO
Following the disbanding of The Red Thread (also a great band that should not be overlooked) in 2007, Jason Lakis began a solo project which eventually evolved into Mist and Mast. Lakis wrote, recorded and performed all the vocals and instruments on the album with the exception of the single “Core Deep.” Enlisting friends from the Bay Area, Jason (guitar, vocals) added Craig Adams (guitar), Bill French (drums), Ben Kasman (keyboards), and Alex Steinhart (bass) to fill out his live band. Mist and Mast is intelligent, flawlessly arranged and blends catchy melodies into a tranquil lo-fi masterpiece.
