OBITS | MOODY, STANDARD AND POOR
Obits returns with Moody, Standard and Poor, the follow-up to their 2009 debut, I Blame You. Led by Rick Froberg of Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes and Sohrab Habibion of Edsel, plus bassist Greg Simpson and drummer Scott Gursky, Obits plays hard-driving garage rock with plenty of attitude to support the serious musical chops these guys possess. The album has great energy, and Frobert and Habibion’s guitarwork really lends each track its own personality, from the surf-rock tinged “Standards” to the rockabilly “I Want Results.” And after listening to this, it’s pretty clear that a live Obits show must be pretty fantastic. Froberg’s vocals are impassioned and gritty and Gursky’s drumming is top notch. This is a great album to get the blood pumping and your feet moving. – Written by DBosket

OBITS | I BLAME YOU
SUB POP
After the demise of Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes, Rick Froberg quietly launched his new project, Obits. I Blame You features garage rock riffs, blues based grooves and Froberg’s turbulent vocals. The Obits’ sound is based upon slower, hypnotic rhythms which seem to better suit Froberg’s vocals while drawing from the psych-garage experimentation of Rocky Erickson’s music but in a more aggressive, contemporary manner. I Blame You is slated for release by Sub Pop on March 24th.
