WENTWORTH KERSEY | ((O))
I’ve been eagerly anticipating the third EP in the “O” series by the Denver, CO bootgaze duo Wentworth Kersey. On ((O)) singer/songwriter Joe Kersey Sampson (A Dog Paloma) brings his alt-country and folk leanings to the table while experimental ambient shoegaze sampler Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens (George & Caplin) works in the sonic magic for what has been described as a “sci-fi folk experiment”. While these different approaches seem contradictory, they are actually pleasantly cohesive, generating spare and ethereal soundscapes upon layers of guitar, synths and Sampson’s earnest voice. The new album is fantastic, but I highly suggest checking out the whole trilogy – 08’s O and 09’s (O) – to get the full story of this band. – Written by JFelton

WENTWORTH KERSEY | O EP Vol. II
The second of three in the O EP Series by Denver’s Wentworth Kersey finds the duo expanding upon the atmospheric quality of the first O EP while maintaining a superior level of song craft musical composition. O Vol. II features acoustic guitar, electronic atmospherics and mature vocals create a stunning collection of haunting folk songs. Passing comparisons to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot era Wilco remain apt, but the tracks feel even more ethereal and ghostly. The O EP Series reveals Wentworth Kersey’s blend of thoughtfully mixed textures and gorgeous melodies.
