Trips and Falls – People Have To Be Told

  • November 1, 2011

Montreal’s Trips and Falls – Jacob Romero (guitar, vocals), Ian Langohr (drums, percussion) and Ashleigh Delaye (vocals, keyboard, bass) – released their second album of guitar pop, People Have to Be Told on the Scottish label, Song, by Toad. The nine lo-fi tracks are minimalist, dark, and bittersweet. More than just catchy hooks and spectacular song titles (“Marginally More Than Mildly Annoying”, “Good People Are Always So Sure They’re Right”, “This Is All Going to End Badly”), the album showcases Romero’s croon and distorted guitars, increasingly oppressive atmospheres, and unexpected pauses, volume fluctuations and general disregard for convention. However, Trips and Falls makes it all work, and work well. Check out this uniquely strange and wonderful set of songs. – Written by SMarx
