Tunnels – The Blackout

  • August 31, 2011

Tunnels is the solo project of Nick Bindeman (formerly of experimental bands Eternal Tapestry and Jackie-O Motherfucker) and Thrill Jockey has released his latest effort, The Blackout (which couldn’t be confused with Britney Spears’, Method Man’s, or the Scorpions’ albums which share a similar title even if he tried). The collection of 10 succinct songs examines 80’s post-punk through dark bass guitar lines, edgy synth, uneven guitars, and faded monotone vocals. Bindeman’s unique take is intense and deliberately unstructured, resulting in a work that is more a fascinating study than a soundtrack. Available on limited edition LP’s and cassettes (by Portland, OR’s Sweating Tapes), the top tracks include opener “Crystal Arms”, “Volt 1979”, and “Red Road.” – Written by SMarx
