Tyler Ramsey – The Valley Wind

  • October 19, 2011

Band of Horses’ lead guitarist Tyler Ramsey returns to solo work on the album The Valley Wind. The indie rocker spins nine tracks ranging from Americana to country-rock, all revolving around spare acoustic guitar fingerpicking and Ramsey’s plaintive vocals. Created in Nashville in less than one week during a rare winter snow storm, the album reflects upon nature and solitude with a dark and melancholy lens, however this is probably less attributable to the landscape of its genesis and more indebted to Ramsey’s stylistic similarity to Harvest Moon era Neil Young. The Valley Wind is a unique work, in that it both profiles the artist’s talent as a soloist, but conversely also highlights the great extent to which he influences Band of Horses, with whispers of Infinite Arms lingering in the background. Top singles include the title track, “Time is a Changing Line”, and “Angel Band.” – Written by SMarx
