Willie Watson – Folk Singer Vol. 1

  • July 26, 2014

Willie Watson of Old Crow Medicine Show released his solo debut, Folk Singer Vol. 1, via Gillian Welch’s label Acony Records and produced by David Rawlings. The album features Watson alone with a guitar and banjo over a set of ten early American songs ranging from folk standards to obscure gems. Watson plays the songs in a very primitive and authentic way much like they were played in the era they were written. A few favorites are: opening track “Midnight Special”; “Stewball”; and Utah Phillips’ “Rock Salt and Nails.” If you are a fan of authentic old time music this is a great collection to behold. – Written by JFelton
