Yellow Ostrich has grown from a one-man operation (frontman Alex Schaaf ) known for blending acappella vocals with lo-fi DIY/electronic indie music to a full blown trio that revels in power rock. With 2011’s The Mistress, Schaaf found himself touring in support of the album and in need of backing musicians to create a fuller sound. Together Schaaf, drummer Michael Tapper (Fool’s Gold, We Are Scientists) and multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez (Beirut, Camera Obscura, Okkervil River) turn out hard edged guitar driven tunes on Strange Land that show as much progress as they are enjoyable.
