Youth Lagoon – Year of Hibernation

  • November 30, 2011

Young Boise, Idaho based Trevor Powers (a.k.a. Youth Lagoon) tells it like it is on his debut full-length album of slow indie pop, Year of Hibernation. A longtime sufferer of paralyzing anxiety, Powers spent time holed-up in his bedroom recording heartfelt songs about his state of mind as well as memories and the feelings they conjure. Part confessional, part self-help lessons, the lo-fi pop tunes generally begin quietly, swathed in reverb and then burst into full throttle guitars, percussive beats and keys, giving voice to Powers’ visions. Keep your eye on this rising talent; standout tracks include “Montana” and “July.” – Written by JFelton
