Electric Dirt is the second album in the past two years from Americana music legend Levon Helm (The Band). Helm’s first solo LP in a quarter century – the Grammy winning Dirt Farmer – followed Helm’s recovery from throat cancer and new lease on life. Electric Dirt again finds Helm steeped in traditional themes yet maintains the honesty, innocence and purity of “Dirt Farmer“ while expanding upon that with elements of gospel, blues and soul. The collection of songs found on Electric Dirt contains a number originals and carefully selected cover songs like The Grateful Dead’s “Tennessee Jed.” Electric Dirt sounds as fresh and sincere as anything Helm released at the high points of The Band.
