The Mynabirds – What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood

  • June 3, 2010

Following the demise of the DC indie pop group Georgie James in 08, Laura Burhenn began a new project which drew inspiration upon her favorite books, records, and friends for what would become the first album from her new band, The Mynabirds. Recorded in Oregon in the summer of 09 with producer Richard Swift, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood tells the story of loss and recovery through soulful mix of gospel and garage rock. With the smoky vocals of Burhenn and the mixture of vintage soul, country, folk and pop, The Mynabirds evoke the spirits of 60’s-era influences like Carole King, Bobbie Gentry and Dusty Springfield. – Written by JFelton
