Doug Burr – O Ye Devastator

  • June 30, 2010

O Ye Devastator – the follow-up to Doug Burr’s acclaimed The Shawl from 08 – is a bittersweet story of love lost, but with an underlying glimmer of hope with Burr’s smooth melancholy vocals conveying the beauty in sadness and heartache. Burr gently treads across genres including folk, roots rock, Americana, soul, and alt-country, creating an earnest and heartfelt sound all his own. Standout tracks include the melancholy orchestral sounds of “A Black Wave is Comin”, the apologetic “Chief of Police in Chicago”, the haunting “Red Red”, and the ballad “Do You Hear Wedding Bells?” with its slow gentle guitars and elegant keys and strings. O Ye Devastator is very well polished and possess that unique quality where it is both immediately likeable but also more rewarding after many listens. – Written by JFelton
