Secret Cities – Pink Graffiti

  • July 2, 2010

Secret Cities’ 10-track album influenced by “Brian Wilson and young people” puts an impressive spin on low-fi chamber pop with Pink Graffiti. Formerly called White Foliage, this trio (Charlie Gokey, Marie Parker and Alex Abnos) from Fargo uses a menagerie of elements including fuzzy vocals, refreshingly catchy yet non-cliche rhythms, synths and deftly used piano and strings to create Arcade-Fire-meets-sundrenched-beach music. Secret Cities goes big with this album – songs are complex and satisfying with an emotional heft that stirs up nostalgic, bittersweet feelings. This is an album to listen to all summer. – Written by DBosket
