American Aquarium – Lamentations

  • June 17, 2020

The North Carolina based band American Aquarium cut their latest album, Lamentations, in Los Angeles with producer Shooter Jennings via an eight-day recording session. BJ Barham, American Aquarium founder and sole songwriter, created his most brilliant album to date. A lamentation is an extreme expression of sorrow and it’s safe to say that Barham goes to some dark and intensely emotional places, confronting issues both personal and political on this LP. Notable tracks include: the biting political single “Me + Mine (Lamentations)”; the self-deprecating love song “The Day I Learned to Lie to You”; the charming “Starts with You”; the Southern political ghost exorcism on “A Better South”; the emotive midtempo ballad “Six Years Come September”; and an homage to the Boss and Tom Petty on “The Luckier You Get.” More or less, there are no bad tracks on Lamentations – it’s an exceptional album that will easily be one of the best albums of the year. – Written by JFelton
