Andrew Bird – My Finest Work Yet

  • April 26, 2019

Acclaimed multi-instrumental and singer/songwriter Andrew Bird follows up 2017’s second Echolocations album – Echlocations: River – with his 12th solo studio album, My Finest Work Yet, the culmination of a 20+ year career. My Finest Work Yet finds Bird grappling with humanity’s struggle to find moral ground in troubling times. Despite such a serious underlying theme, the album is replete with Bird’s trademark playfulness, beautiful melodies, clever wordplay, and exquisite musicianship, all coming together in one of his most lush albums to date. Standout tracks include: the soaring opener, “Sisyphus”; the politically charged “Bloodless”; the chamber pop influenced track “Archipelago”; the Laurel Canyon kissed “Manifest”; the upbeat 70’s pop-rock vibe on “Olympians”; and the twinkling “Don the Struggle.” While I’m not sure this album is literally Andrew Bird’s finest album, as he has many excellent albums, My Finest Work Yet is definitely near the top! – Written by JFelton
