Balmorhea – Stranger

  • September 10, 2012

Balmorhea’s 2010 release Constellations was a simple and intimate collection of compositions that were both affecting and beautiful. The latest from the instrumental Austin band, Stranger, sees the six-piece moving beyond the American Southwest / Texas soundscapes of their early days and past their recent explorations into the cosmos seeking instead the sonic palette of nature and life. Whether this is a natural progression as the band expands and evolves, or a facet of their songwriting principals being located in Texas and Brooklyn, the ten complex singles amaze and comfort. Check out promotional track “Pyrakantha” for a glimpse at their new sound. – Written by SMarx
