Bedouine – Bird Songs of a Killjoy

  • November 20, 2019

The Syrian-born, L.A.-based singer/songwriter Azniv Korkejian (a.k.a. Bedouine) follows-up her acclaimed 2017 self-titled debut with Bird Songs of a Killjoy – another set of polished timeless folk songs that takes on heartbreak and loneliness with tenderness. Similar to her last album, Korkejian’s melodies and steady guitar picking are accompanied by strings and wind instruments which enhance the richness of each song. Standout tracks include: the swirling, lovelorn ballad and album opener, “Under the Night”; the heartbreaker “One More Time”; the stunning and pensive “Bird”; the warm and more upbeat “Sunshine Sometimes”; the pining “When You’re Gone”; the soul-vibed “Dizzy”; and the beautiful “Matters of the Heart.” Bedouine challenges herself and her audience to go deeper on Bird Songs of a Killjoy while drawing the listener into her world. – Written by JFelton
