The Bell Beat – Our Manderley

  • May 18, 2011

Unsigned Detroit based band The Bell Beat (formerly Sh! The Octopus) brings us their sophomore release of upbeat, psych pop folk, Our Manderley. The album, whose title may refer to the haunted country estate featured in Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca, also has touches of indie rock with its tight electric and acoustic instrumentation, boy-girl vocals, and bouts of call and response. Comprised of Randy Bishop (vocals, guitar), Joel Pearson (drums), Chris Sesta (bass), Andy Stachowiak (guitar), and Marina Trejo (vocals, keyboards), The Bell Beat is a talented band. Standouts among the ten tracks are the opener “The New Year” and “A Herring Overhead.” – Written by JFelton
