Buck Meek – Buck Meek

  • December 13, 2018

Texas native Buck Meek is the guitarist for the indie band Big Thief, and his self-titled solo debut is hushed, spirited and a bit twangy. Meek grew up outside of Austin and began playing guitar from a young age, becoming a quick study of jazz, blues and outlaw country music. Although Meek’s work with Big Thief has taken him far away from his Texas roots both musically and physically, the lead single “Cannonball!” from his LP definitely finds him reconnecting with the music he was brought up with. Album highlights include: an ode to a kind-hearted mechanic in “Joe by the Book”; the easy-going “Cannonball!”; the off-kilter “Ruby”; the lonesome “Flight 9525”; the prickly “Sue”; and the woozy honky-tonk tinged closing track “Fool Me.” Buck Meek’s debut is a playful and interesting listen and I look forward to seeing him expand upon what he’s accomplished here. Definitely, someone to keep your eye on. – Written by JFelton
