Low – Cmon

  • May 10, 2011

As a longtime fan of the indie rock trio Low, I eagerly awaited their 9th studio full length release C’mon (their first in 4 years), and it is a very good album – one of the best of the past few releases. Known for their slowcore style (slow tempos and minimalist arrangements), Low’s return to their trademark sound is simple and stunning. Like 2002’s Trust, C’mon was recorded in a former Catholic church and the natural acoustics deliver reverb-laden atmospherics that blend well with the harmonies and organ instrumentation. However, unlike their last release Drums and Guns with its anti-Iraq war sentiment, C’mon is more hopeful, a conversation with fellow humanity. Noteworthy tracks include “Try to Sleep” and “Especially Me.” – Written by JFelton
