Dead Confederate – Sugar

  • November 8, 2010

Athens, GA band Dead Confederate is back with their sophomore release, Sugar. Two years after their debut, Wrecking Ball, the band plays grunge-laden Southern rock with energy and a healthy dose of droning guitar. Produced by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth), Sugar mixes songs with a harder edge with more melodic tunes that recall Band of Horses and Helio Sequence. This album is a little scattered, with an expansive stadium rock feeling in “Giving It All Away,” an almost Manchester rock-sounding “Run from the Gun,” and more straightforward rock songs with distorted guitars (“In the Dark,” “Semi-Thought”). The odds of everyone loving each song on the album are slim, but conversely, everyone can probably find one track that they really connect with. – Written by DBosket
