The Ontario based Juno-winning alt-country trio Elliott Brood follow-up 2017’s Ghost Gardens with their seventh release, Keepers – a collection of tender, melancholic songs about outlaws on the run, family feuds, fatherhood/children, war, unfaithful lovers, foreboding feelings and consequences of drinking too much. Keeper is a self-produced album with mastering by Sound Engineer and collaboration with Stephen Pitkin at The Office in Hamilton, ON. This latest finds Elliott Brood dealing with the past in more personal terms than found on their historically driven albums. Album highlights include: the bluegrass banjo-tinged opening track “Bird Dog”; the catchy toe-tapper “Stay Out”; the reflective 50’s rock-inspired “No Way Out”; the gentle weeper “A Month of Sundays”; the spirited number “Out Walkin’”; the somber introspective number “Oh Me”; and the cinematic war ballad “Merciless Wind.” For the better part of two decades, Elliott Brood has produced an excellent set of albums without a single miss-step in the bunch.
