Elvis Perkins – Creation Myths

  • December 6, 2020

Singer/songwriter Elvis Perkins has spent the past 15 years making hushed, offbeat indie folk, and Creation Myths is his first release since co-writing with his brother, Osgood, the score to the 2017 horror film The Blackcoat’s Daughter and his last solo release 2015’s I Aubade. Creation Myths consists of songs composed around the time of his 2007 debut Ash Wednesday that were recorded in a rich combination of cosmic country and sixties psych-pop. Album highlights include: the shimmering opener “Sing Sing”; the wry cosmic pop tune “See Monkey”; the lovely, pedal-steel-laden “Mrs. & Mrs. E”; the haunting country lament “The Half Life”; the spacey retro psychedelic-tinged “Iris”; the translucent “Know You Know”; the lively New Orleans vibed piano/horn track “Promo”; and the gorgeous closing track “Anonymous.” Elvis Perkins charming Creation Myths is another excellent genre-bending folk album and an all-around satisfying listen. – Written by JFelton
