Floating Action – Desert Etiquette

  • January 26, 2011

Seth Kauffman is Floating Action, a North Carolina based multi-instrumentalist whose sophomore album Desert Etiquette is set to be released in late February. Kauffman has a characteristic sound all his own, and on Desert Etiquette, he wrote, produced, starred in and recorded by himself, with only the aid of Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses) on mixing. This fusion of lo-fi surf and southern rock, which holds hints of folk, soul, and gospel, is a great largely stripped-down listen. Named after the reputed Middle East custom of leaving behind a drinking vessel at a desert oasis for the next traveler who wanders by, Desert Etiquette is a likeable album with a fresh sound that is at once familiar and new. Check out notable tracks like “Please Reveal” and “Rincon.” – Written by JFelton
