Foxes in Fiction – Swung from the Branches

  • August 24, 2010

Foxes in Fiction – Toronto’s Warren Hildebrand – breaks out a stellar set of indie pop electronica on Swung from the Branches. Strangely, but to deliberate effect, Swung from the Branches was originally available only on cassette tape, with its bouts of sputtering tape and churning fuzz, but due to high demand and due to the rarity of cassette players these days, listeners can now download the 22 tracks of ambient dream pop. Recorded this last Fall with a slew of equipment from the Ableton 7 software dj/composition pack, to a Roland SP-404 sampler, to a 4-track Akai reel to reel along with guitar, looping pedal and sampler, Swung from the Branches is at 71 minutes a long look (yet thankfully broken-up into an A-side / B-Side format) at mood driven yet soothing background noise. Hildebrand’s intense level of detail can be seen in his contemplative compositions and clever lyrics, yet that detail is often very subtle in effect, resulting in a greatly textured album. – Written by JFelton
