Gaelynn Lea – Learning How to Stay

  • November 19, 2018

Minnesota based classically trained violinist/indie folk artist Gaelynn Lea was the winner of 2016’s NPR’s prestigious Tiny Desk Contest and follows-up her acclaimed The Songs We Sing Along the Way with her third full-length, Learning How to Stay. This highly anticipated release explores the theme of home through eleven atmospheric songs that feature leisurely paced piano and strings with droning tones, layered instrumentation and sounds alongside Lea’s lovely vocals. Standout tracks include: the lighthearted folk/country “Dark to Light and Dark Again”; the Celtic inspired Larry Unger song, “Jim and Judy’s Wedding”; the Eastern European tinged “Lost in the Woods”; the emotive “Grace and a Tender Hand”; the Cat Stevens-esque “I Wait”; and the exquisite closing track “Moment of Bliss.” Learning How to Stay is a refreshingly honest and unique album from a talented musician. – Written by JFelton
