Gregory Alan Isakov – Evening Machines

  • December 5, 2018

Singer/songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov follows-up his eponymous 2016 album with Evening Machines – his first album of new material since 2013’s The Weatherman. Given all the nature-based themes in his discography, it’s not too surprising to learn that Isakov owns and tends a farm near Boulder, CO when he’s not making music and touring. The twelve tracks that make up Evening Machines were recorded with the Colorado Symphony in Isakov’s converted barn studio and are filled with oblique lyricism about the natural world with brooding but expansive and beautiful instrumentation. Album highlights include: the gorgeous “San Luis”; the sparse “Bullet Holes”; the wistful “Caves”; the piano-tinged “Powder”; the poetic “Dark, Dark, Dark”; and the brooding closing track “Wings in All Black.” Evening Machines is another Americana gem from Gregory Alan Isakov and it gets better with each listen! – Written by JFelton
