Hans Chew – Tennessee and Other Stories

  • September 14, 2010

Best known for his contributions on piano and backing vocals in the psychedelic Americana band D. Charles Speer & the Helix, Hans Chew takes a solo spin on his debut Tennessee & Other Stories…. On this album Chew explores variations of southern sounds, opening with the three song “Tennessee trilogy”, then on to boogie-woogie in “New Cypress Grove Boogie”, the country waltz “Queen of the Damned Blues” and the gospel laden, saxophone laced closer “Only Son”. Tennessee & Other Stories showcases Chew’s piano talents, which channel the energy and fire reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard, making the album an enjoyable romp through the dark, gothic sounds of the south. – Written by JFelton
